About AGIR

The General Association of Engineers in Romania: the professional organisation of Romanian engineers and the successor of the Polytechnic Society founded in 1881.

The General Association of Engineers in Romania (AGIR), which returned to Romanian civil society in 1990, is a non-governmental professional organisation with legal personality. It is non-political, non-profit and fully autonomous, and is established for an unlimited period. AGIR is an open organisation with an unlimited number of members, both individuals and legal entities, who accept its statute and wish to contribute to its aims. Its organisation and operation are laid down in the statute.

AGIR is the legal successor of the engineering organisations that successively bore the names “Polytechnic Society”, “General Association of Engineers in Romania”, “Scientific Association of Technicians”, “Scientific Association of Engineers and Technicians” and “National Council of Engineers and Technicians”.

AGIR’s aims

  • to anticipate and respond effectively to engineers’ needs, giving them the means to gain a competitive advantage;
  • to promote an industrial culture that makes the most of existing talent;
  • to encourage engineers’ professional fulfilment, and to recognise and honour their contribution to the success of the institutions they work for;
  • to build a basis for the continuous improvement of engineering work, marked by professional excellence, ongoing development, respect for human and social values and openness to consultation and communication;
  • to highlight engineering culture through research, development, design, innovation, production and marketing, using human and financial resources as efficiently as possible;
  • to contribute to the development of industrial culture by showcasing productive and innovative companies that can bring sustainable economic growth, greater social stability and environmental protection;
